How much does a trip to Chamonix cost? Lift passes, accommodation, meals and tips
In Chamonix, the lift pass is the most predictable cost and accommodation the most variable. Realistic budgets for one person, a couple and a family, in winter and summer, the published price of each item, the costs people forget, and the levers that bring the bill down.

A stay in Chamonix is expensive, but not uniformly. The lift pass is the most predictable item; accommodation, the most variable, can double between a week in January and a week in February. Meals and rental make up the rest, and they are the ones people underestimate.
Here are realistic budgets by profile, the published price of each item, the costs people forget, and the levers that bring the bill down. These budgets are working estimates based on published prices, not official rates.
How much does a ski week in Chamonix cost?
| Profile, 7 nights in an off-peak week | Accommodation | Lift pass (5 to 7 days) | Rental | Meals | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One person | €350 to €900 | €245 to €525 | €100 to €220 | €210 to €490 | €950 to €2,300 |
| Two people | €500 to €1,400 | €490 to €1,050 | €200 to €440 | €420 to €980 | €1,700 to €4,200 |
| Family of four | €800 to €2,400 | €700 to €1,400 | €300 to €700 | €700 to €1,500 | €2,650 to €6,500 |
The totals also include local transport, from €40 to €180 per person. They apply to an off-peak week: during the Christmas and February holidays, accommodation often goes beyond the upper limit. They include neither the trip to Chamonix, nor ski lessons, nor insurance.
How much does a lift pass cost in 2026-2027?
| Pass | Published price |
|---|---|
| Chamonix Le Pass, starting day price (advance purchase) | €49 |
| Chamonix Le Pass, adult day from 19 December 2026 to 9 April 2027 | €76.50 |
| Chamonix Le Pass, 6 days adult in high season | €373 |
| Chamonix Le Pass, 6 days adult in spring (10 April to 2 May 2027) | €290.40 |
| Mont-Blanc Unlimited, starting day price | €75 |
| Soleil beginner pass, adult day | €27.50 |
The €49 starting price does not apply every day: it depends on the date and how far ahead you buy. Six days of Chamonix Le Pass cost €82.60 less in spring than in high season for an adult, and the spring family pass comes to €900.20 for six days.
Booked with your accommodation, a 2 to 9-day pass gets a 20% discount. The choice between Le Pass and the Mont-Blanc Unlimited is detailed in our lift pass guide and our page on the Mont Blanc passes.
How much does accommodation cost?
It is the item that decides the budget. In central Chamonix, a night for two in a two or three-star hotel costs €100 to €220 in ski season, against €80 to €150 in Argentière and €80 to €170 in Les Houches, as a rough guide. Saturdays and the holidays push all these prices up.
A kitchen changes the calculation: an apartment that costs a little more per night can lower the total for the stay by replacing some restaurant meals. Add the tourist tax, from €0.80 to €3.60 per person per night depending on a furnished rental's rating in 2026, and cleaning for a rental.
The cheapest options are in cheap places to stay in Chamonix, hotels by budget in our hotel guide, and rentals in renting a chalet or apartment.
Les Houches, the best balance of price and access: accommodation often cheaper than in central Chamonix, a family ski area in the village and a station on the valley line, free with the guest card.

| Type of meal | Per person |
|---|---|
| Groceries and cooking, per day | €10 to €25 |
| Quick meal, snack | €10 to €20 |
| Classic Savoyard restaurant | €30 to €55 |
| Full meal at altitude, with a drink | €45 to €90 |
The mountain restaurant is the most underestimated item: a menu dictated by the location, drinks, and no alternative within reach of your skis. Lunch at altitude every day weighs more heavily over a week than the choice between two lift passes. Addresses and budgets are in our guide to eating in Chamonix and our mountain restaurants.
How much do rental and lessons cost?
Allow €100 to €220 per adult for a week of standard gear, and €300 to €700 for a family of four: children cost less, but helmets and extras add up. Booking online saves 20 to 25% on the prices noted in shops, see renting ski gear.
Lessons come on top: a week of ESF group lessons starts at €304 for an adult, lift pass not included. The options are compared in our page on ski lessons. Add insurance covering rescue, search and evacuation: the ESF shows E-Gloo insurance at €3.50 a day.
What about a stay without skiing?
Excursions replace the lift pass. The Aiguille du Midi ticket ranges from €60.20 to €83 return depending on the slot, the Montenvers train costs €31.50 return, €49.70 with the gondola and the ice cave, and the two-day pedestrian pass at €119.
For a summer weekend for two, two nights, allow €380 to €1,240 excluding travel. The summer Mont-Blanc Multipass, from €26.50 when bought in advance, can bundle several excursions. The plan for a weekend is in our weekend itinerary for Chamonix.
How much does transport cost?
On site, the bus is free with a lift pass, and the Mont-Blanc Express is free with the guest card between Servoz and Vallorcine. Without a pass, a bus ticket costs €1.70 bought before boarding and a 3-day pass €9. The network is detailed in getting around Chamonix.
To get here, a shared shuttle from Geneva airport costs €15 to €50 per person, a private transfer €180 to €350 per vehicle, good value for four. The train from Paris starts at €42 booked in advance. With a car, add parking, fuel and snow equipment: see how to get to Chamonix and parking in Chamonix.
How can you reduce the budget?
- Choose an off-peak week: from 28 November to 18 December 2026, or from 10 April to 2 May 2027.
- Buy the lift pass online, at least 3 days ahead, for the starting price.
- Take the right coverage: the Mont-Blanc Unlimited is pointless if you stay on the Chamonix ski areas.
- Stay outside the centre, counting the time and cost of journeys.
- Get a kitchen and limit restaurants to dinner.
- Book gear early and compare family packages.
- Share transfers: for four, a private transfer becomes competitive.
- Avoid unnecessary pedestrian tickets on days when you ski.
The seasons and their prices are compared in when to go to Chamonix.
Which costs creep up without you noticing?
- a lift pass bought at the desk instead of online;
- the Mont-Blanc Unlimited when Le Pass is enough;
- excursion tickets not used because of the weather;
- the town centre during a school holiday week;
- forgetting the tourist tax and cleaning;
- a helmet and accessories rented separately;
- lunch at altitude every day;
- insurance that does not cover off-piste.
A lift closure because of wind does not necessarily lead to a refund: read the conditions before buying. No single rule is published for all lift passes.
A worked example: a week for two in April
Take a couple skiing six days during the week of 10 to 17 April 2027. Two spring passes cost twice €290.40, so €580.80, against €746 at the high-season rate: a saving of €165.20 on this item alone.
Add a week in a holiday village in Les Praz, on half board, at €424 per person in a double room, so €848 for two, dinners and breakfasts included. With rental (€200 to €440), lunches (about €300 for two) and the tourist tax, the week comes to around €2,000 to €2,300 for two, excluding travel.
That is the low end of the budget for a ski week for two. The same stay in February, in a hotel in the centre, can double the accommodation item. The end of the season and what stays open are detailed in our page on skiing in April.
How should you read these budgets?
Our budgets add up the prices checked for each item, hotels, rental, restaurants and car parks: they are working budgets, not an official average. Free entry and discounts for children, seniors and disabled people vary with each product: ask at the ticket desk.
Useful services on site, supermarkets included, are in practical services in Chamonix, and the other pages in the Practical section.
April, the best-value week of the winter: the spring six-day pass costs much less than in high season, Les Grands Montets and Balme are still skiing, and the week of 10 to 17 April 2027 falls after most of the holidays.
