On allée Recteur Payot, the most reviewed hotel in Chamonix on Google: entertainment, three restaurants, a pool and a deliberate social buzz. A treat for some, a mistake for light sleepers.

The verdict
La Folie Douce is a place to hang out more than a discreet hotel: music, entertainment, three restaurants and guests who also come for the party. With more than 3,500 Google reviews at 4.2, it is the most reviewed hotel in Chamonix.
The tourist office lists it from €91, the lowest starting price among the big hotels in the centre.
On site
La Petite Cuisine for lunch and dinner, Le Mayen for cheese specialities, La Fruitière in a bistronomic version from December to April. The hotel also offers a pool and treatments.
Do not confuse it with the music-fuelled après-ski of the same name: it is the same brand, but the entertainment depends on the evening and the season.
Our advice
Choose it if entertainment is part of the trip, not to get an early night before a climb. Ask for a room away from the party areas, and check the exact category of the room you book.

Nathalie spent six years on the front desk of a hotel near Chamonix station, answering the same questions every day about shuttles, the Montenvers train and parking. She writes the pages she would have liked to hand to her guests. She checks every price with the operator, never in a guidebook.
