The verdict

La Crèmerie du Glacier is one of the most endearing addresses in the valley, at the end of a forest track in Argentière. Its Google rating of 4.6 from more than 650 reviews shows how much it matters to locals and hikers alike.

A family story

In 1926, Georges Ravanel, who sold ice from the Argentière glacier to the hotels, built a wooden cabin here. His daughter Solange took it over in 1951 and served snacks, milk drinks and fondues; her son Claudy and Véronique took over in 1988. Since 2020, Céline, Claudy's eldest daughter, has run the place with her husband Jocelyn.

On the menu

The menu lists more than a dozen cheese croûtes, from €10 for the plain one to €20 for the truffle version, with the morel croûte at €19. Three-cheese fondues cost €20 to €25, and potato or crozets gratins €17 (menu noted on 28 October 2026).

Farçon, a traditional Savoyard dish, made the house's name from 1988 onwards. Homemade desserts, tart, crème brûlée or fresh cheese from the Montroc farm, cost €7.

Our advice

Walk up from Argentière or come at the end of a hike: the crèmerie is in the forest, at the foot of the glacier, not in the village. It is not at Montenvers, despite the frequent confusion with the Mer de Glace.

From the Grands Montets car park, allow about fifteen minutes on foot for roughly 700 metres. The crèmerie opens in summer and, since December 1996, in winter too: out of season, call before going up, on +33 4 50 54 07 52.
